PE & Sport Premium
What is the PE & Sports Premium?
In 2013 the Department for Education announced the introduction of PE and Sports Premium Funding for primary school sport. Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil. Schools must use this funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. This means schools should use the premium to:
· develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers;
· make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.
Funding received
We annually use our PE and Sporting Premium to:
engage specialist sports instructors to work with all age groups across the school to improve PE curriculum outcomes for all pupils;
train and employ one of our Teaching Assistants to provide good quality, inclusive, extra–curricular sports clubs and engage pupils of all ages and abilities in various sports on a termly basis;
provide transport, equipment and cover additional staffing costs to enable pupil participation in competitive inter-school sporting events—including hockey, cricket, football, swimming (not swimming lessons) and athletics;
provide good quality equipment for use in PE lessons and other sporting activities;
improve the safety of our outdoor play facilities and provide more stimulating outdoor play resources;
provide specialist dance instruction and enable participation in performance events in the wider community.
Objective of PE and Sporting Premium
At Garsington Primary we recognise the personal and social value, as well as the health and well-being benefits, that regular participation in sports and physical exercise can bring to our pupils, and its impact on their academic achievement and enjoyment of learning. For these reasons we endeavour to:
encourage all pupils to engage and participate fully in PE and sports as part of the national curriculum during school hours;
provide opportunities to and promote participation in both non-competitive and competitive inter-school sporting events;
provide a balanced and varied mix of extra curricular sporting activities and clubs and encourage/facilitate as many children as possible to get involved;
ensure our staff are confident and well-trained to deliver good quality PE teaching and that the profile of sport and health & well-being is high across the school.
Accountability
Under the Ofsted Schools Inspection Framework 2015 inspectors will assess how effectively leaders use the Primary PE and Sport Premium and measure its impact on outcomes for pupils, and how effectively governors hold them to account for this.
Spending and Strategy
Schools are required to publish details of how they spend their PE and Sport Premium funding and the effect it has had on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment.
